Established in 2014 in Rwanda in East Africa, Rwanda Nut Company has accomplished cultivation of more than 210 ha of agricultural land, which is now fully planted, is the producer and exporter of macadamia nuts and indigenous first-class coffee in cooperation of ca 200 local farmers. Rwanda's first commercial-scale nut export to the United States was also by the Rwanda Nuts Company. We aim to produce Rwanda's first organic certified macadamia nuts by 2023.
Commenced in 2016 with the full cooperation and support from Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA), the project is run for 5 years at a commercial farm-scale macadamia nut plantation to demonstrate the organic farming technology centered on arbuscular mycorrhizal fungi and its beneficial partner bacteria, which has been confirmed to have the effect of promoting crop growth without soil degradation. This is a project planned by Organic Solutions Japan and run jointly with Rwanda Nut Company to establish organic farming technology suitable for Rwanda. The proven organic farming technology is expected to be applied not only to macadamia but also to other fruit trees and crops.
